You form the present subjunctive of regular verbs by dropping the -o from the yo form of the present tense and adding the subjunctive endings, which are relatively easy to remember because -ar verbs use the present-tense endings of -er verbs, and -er and -ir verbs use the present-tense endings of -ar verbs.COMPRENDER: to understand Imperfect Subjunctive. Stem-changing – ir verbs are irregular and are thus explained on the irregular conjugations page. DESCANSAR: to rest Present Subjunctive: Regular -ER and -IR verbs. The past perfect subjunctive, or the pluperfect subjunctive (el pretérito pluscuamperfecto de subjuntivo), expresses a past action that was completed before the past action in the main clause. Stem-changing – ar and – er verbs follow the above rules they use the same stem as in the present tense and thus maintain their stem changes in the subjunctive. If this seems too complicated, try this: take off the present tense ending and add the subjunctive ending. Ir: fuera, fueras, fuera, furamos, fueran. These conjugation rules are a bit more complicated. Subjunctive Past or Imperfect Ser: fuera, fueras, fuera, furamos, fueran. Take the present tense and change the E (or O) to A. Take the present tense of the verb and change the A (or O, in yo form) at the beginning of the suffix to E. Conjugating regular Spanish verbs in the subjunctive is mostly a matter of changing one vowel to another.
